Entertaining the eastern suburbs since 1982
Players have been producing shows since our humble beginnings as a church theatre group for the Holy Family Parish in 1982. That year proudly presenting “Trial by Jury” and “A Fruity Melodrama” in the church hall which, with the indefatigable labours of a very enthusiastic cast and crew, had been converted into a most practical and comfortable theatrette for each production. Initially drawing on the great talents of those pioneer members, the company has continued to grow in both theatrical expertise and standards.
In 2003, Players turned over a page in their history. The then committee invited a group of young, enthusiastic individuals to develop a strategy for re-vamping the company. This new team went about infusing Players with a new energy, both in the membership and in the shows they presented. Over the last five years, Players has expanded into a driving force, extending opportunities for any members to be involved onstage and behind the scenes. We pride ourselves on our creativity and the strength and passion of our diverse membership.
We have performed a wide array of musicals from classics like Oklahoma to the new breed of musicals such as RENT. In 2006 we took a step back to our drama roots and produced A Midsummer Nights Dream showing that we could still produce great straight plays even though our focus has somewhat shifted to a more musical direction. For a full list of our shows click on the past shows tab in the menu above where you can see some photos of our shows and see how we've progressed through the years
Players enjoy performing their shows at the lovely Strachan Theatre at South Oakleigh College and our smaller shows at the magnificent Doncaster Playhouse. Our rehearsal home is based at the new and improved Fleigner Hall in Clayton. Apart from providing the medium and the support for members to explore and experience all aspects of theatre, both on and off stage, Players also prides itself in having nurtured a happy, healthy social environment all of it's Members.
Players Theatre is proud to be a stalwart of amateur theatre in the eastern suburbs, consistently providing wonderful opportunities for artistic expression in all its forms, having a fair and open audition process and creating quality entertainment for its appreciative audience.
