Welcome to the home page of Players Theatre Company
Players have been entertaining the Eastern Suburbs since our humble beginnings as a church theatre group for the Holy Family Parish in 1982. That year proudly presenting “Trial by Jury” and “A Fruity Melodrama” in the church hall which, with the indefatigable labours of a very enthusiastic cast and crew, had been converted into a most practical and comfortable theatrette for each production. Initially drawing on the great talents of those pioneer members, the company has continued to grow in both theatrical expertise and standards.
In 2003, Players turned over a page in their history. The then committee invited a group of young, enthusiastic individuals to develop a strategy for re-vamping the company. This new team went about infusing Players with a new energy, both in the membership and in the shows they presented. Over the last five years, Players has expanded into a driving force, extending opportunities for younger members to be involved onstage and behind the scenes. We pride ourselves on our creativity and the strength and passion of our diverse membership.
Players have a wide range of musicals under their belt, including “The Music Man”, “Oklahoma”, “Guys & Dolls”, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat”, “Bye Bye Birdie”, “Side by Side by Sondheim” and “Jesus Christ Superstar” just to name a few. In 2006 we saw a return to form, in the staging of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” as our contribution to straight theatre. Other notable productions have been “Not Now Darling”, “Stepping Out”, “Arsenic & Old Lace”, and “Lend Me a Tenor”.
Players enjoy performing their shows at the lovely Watson Theatre at Forest Hill College and our rehearsal home is based at the new and improved Fleigner Hall in Clayton. Apart from providing the medium and the support for members to explore and experience all aspects of theatre, both on and off stage, Players also prides itself in having nurtured a happy, healthy social environment all of it's Members.
Players Theatre is proud to be a stalwart of Amateur Theatre in the eastern suburbs, consistently providing wonderful opportunities for artistic expression in all its forms, having a fair and open audition process and creating quality entertainment for its appreciative audience.

SYNOPSIS
Jonathan Larson's 1996 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning musical (which itself was based on Puccini's 'La Boheme'), RENT chronicles a year in the lives of a group of New York City East Villagers. During a 525,600 minute span of their existence, these bohemian artists grapple with everything from paying the rent on time to being rent apart by love, drugs, AIDS and death. RENT shows that even amidst such adversity, love and hope can thrive if only we realize that there is no day but today.
